My understanding is that the rails on the original Machine were made of steel and wood painted to appear to be brass.

My goal was to fabricate mind using brass tube and also some solid brass castings. I experimented bending steel electrical conduit tube which went very well but bending 1/8" wall brass tube was a different story.
